We will get home to God. We will awaken and remember what we are in truth. God loves us. We are not a body. The body cannot be sick. There is a way of perceiving the body in which it has perfect health. There is no death. This world will disappear. God did not create the world or anything that is not eternal. God created His Son. His Son is eternal. We are His Son.
There are two voices, two selves and two worlds. Almost everyone believes in the ego voice, the personality self and the body, and the unforgiven world. Almost everyone does not believe in the Voice for God, the Holy Spirit, the forgiven self or the forgiven world. Yet the Course assures us that what is out of our awareness, what is invisible to us, is real and what we are aware of is not.
The ego’s incessant voice speaks to us constantly about our vulnerability, our worthlessness, our differences, of attack and being attack, of guilt and grievances. The ego, which for most of us is presently in control, uses the personality self, the body and the world to witness to its reality and to attack and block the truth. We gave it that power. Now we must learn to take it back.
Why is sickness such a cherished invention of the ego? We think we are a body because the ego talked us into believing it. If the body can be sick, it is weak and vulnerable, and therefore so are we. If we believe we are weak and vulnerable we will never attempt to regain our throne. If the body can be sick, autonomous of the mind, we and the ego can be autonomous of God and the mind. We can be gods unto ourselves. If we are feeling the effects of sickness and pain we must be the body. Etc.
All the things we made up (the body, pain, sickness and death) to have the experience of separation, are now being used by the ego to maintain control. All the layers of twisted logic leave us dazed and confused. When participating in the ego thought system, we believe we are not in control and what is in control wants us in slavery and ultimately dead. Why dead? To prove to us, who think that we are a body, that we could not possibly be eternal. The almost inaudible sense somewhere in us that we are something else, that there must be a better way or the siren screeching of death that grips us with fear? Which do we think is real?
The ego wants dead what gave it life. The mind. Sounds familiar. In the separation story we supposedly attacked and wanted dead what gave us life. God. So our child, the ego, now attacks us and wants us dead. But that is all happening in the dream. That is the separation story as told by the ego. We know from the Course that if we stop listening to the ego’s delusions and half truths we can experience a healed perception and what that reflects. But we must withdraw our faith and belief from the ego and listen to the Holy Spirit’s reasoning.
It is absolutely possible to undo everything we have done. Can we never experience the body as sick again? Can we never have another emotional reaction? Can we be peaceful no matter what seems to be happening in the world? Can we live in faith and not in fear? Of Course. But it will take great effort and willingness to learn.
It is possible even in this world to hear only that Voice and no other. It takes effort and great willingness to learn. It is the final lesson that I learned, and God’s Sons are as equal as learners as they are as Sons. (T-5.II.3:9-11) (Listen to only one Voice)
It takes great learning to understand that all things, events, encounters and circumstances are helpful. It is only to the extent to which they are helpful that any degree of reality should be accorded them in this world of illusion. The word “value” can apply to nothing else. (M-4.I-A.4:5-7) (No grievances)
It takes great learning both to realize and to accept the fact that the world has nothing to give. (M-13.2:1–3:1) (No valuing of the world or anything in it)
