Who is the you who mindlessly consumes? The you that values and purchases things in the illusion? The you who prefers this or that? The you that cannot see that all forms are simply there to deny the truth? This is not who you really are. You are the Son of God.
This consumer is the self you made to replace your Self that you might have the experience of specialness and self-reliance. The Son of God has everything. Nothing is lacking. The consumer self, in the face of innocence story, is simply doing what pleases it and makes it happy. It is buying things it likes. It is making choices based on what it perceives as reasoning.
If you want a deeper truth, that self you made was constructed in childhood. You came and made an ego or self concept for yourself. You made a child avatar and you pulled pieces of programming from your parental figures. You established likes and dislikes, ways of perceiving, an emotional body and many other attributes for your avatar.
The avatar, the robot, is programmed. You believe your avatar is now an adult purchasing and consuming from choice. The truth is that you are still that programmed child avatar doing, saying, thinking and feeling what it was programmed to do, say, think and feel in childhood. All your wants, desires and choices are its wants, desires and choices. It operates within patterns that cannot be deviated from.
That red sports car you want…just the red toy car you had as a child. That person you want a relationship with…your mother or father. That next great toy…just like a new toy in childhood that temporarily made you feel better. That special food or movie…an attempted replay of a sort of seeming happiness experienced in the past. These are very basic examples.
Would you be shocked to learn that when you peal away the facade of the adult, it is really a child avatar running the show? When you peel away the child avatar layer you will find the atheist and the martyr layer. Then finally, if you strip all the facades away from your personality self, the self you made, you will find the self that all the layers you made were made to hide. The psychopathic, narcissistic, murderer, ego self whose only interest is self-preservation.
If you are open and look closely enough with the Holy Spirit, the child avatar will be exposed. You will begin your journey inward to transcend the personality self. But who wants to believe that they are a child robot? That the world is filled with child robots just endlessly replaying their childhoods in patterns they cannot change? This idea is an affront to the self we made that thinks it knows everything because we told it that it did.
“The “dynamics” of the ego will be our lesson for a while, for we must look first at this to see beyond it, since you have made it real. We will undo this error quietly together, and then look beyond it to truth.” (T-11.V.1:5-6)
“What is healing but the removal of all that stands in the way of knowledge? And how else can one dispel illusions except by looking at them directly, without protecting them? Be not afraid, therefore, for what you will be looking at is the source of fear, and you are beginning to learn that fear is not real.” (T-11.V.2:1-3)
“Illusions are investments. They will last as long as you value them. Values are relative, but they are powerful because they are mental judgments. The only way to dispel illusions is to withdraw all investment from them, and they will have no life for you because you will have put them out of your mind. While you include them in it, you are giving life to them. Except there is nothing there to receive your gift.” (T-7.VII.4:1-6)
“The purpose of Atonement is to dispel illusions, not to establish them as real and then forgive them.” (T-13.X.6:6)
Being a child robot is the antithesis of being a free thinking adult. The adult has judgments and opinions of its own and is seemingly making adult choices based on adult rational. This is the fantasy our child, the ego, harbors. But this adult fantasy is a happy fiction to keep us from remembering the core of the self we made, the secret dream. Our investment in this adult fantasy keeps us from traveling down the layers of facade and exposing the core. If we really understood what our personality selves were built upon, we would summarily dismiss them and their thought processes.
“And how else can one dispel illusions except by looking at them directly, without protecting them?” (T-11.V.2:2)
Unbelievable you say?
“The Holy Spirit will teach you to perceive beyond your belief, because truth is beyond belief and His perception is true. The ego can be completely forgotten at any time, because it is a totally incredible belief, and no one can keep a belief he has judged to be unbelievable. The more you learn about the ego, the more you realize that it cannot be believed. The incredible cannot be understood because it is unbelievable. The meaninglessness of perception based on the unbelievable is apparent, but it may not be recognized as being beyond belief, because it is made by belief.” (T-7.VIII.6:1-5)
“I object to this whole line of thinking.” First of all, who is objecting and why? We are merely looking at what we have made with the Holy Spirit.
“There is an advantage to bringing nightmares into awareness, but only to teach that they are not real, and that anything they contain is meaningless.” (T-9.V.3:1)
Remember it is never the means the ego objects to, it is the ends. The means the Holy Spirit is using is the exploring and exposing of the personality self. The ends: freedom and the exposure of the unreality of the made-up self. You will not believe the freedom you will experience when you allow the Holy Spirit to teach you about the layer of the personality self that lies below the face of innocence. It is a lesson in forgiveness that will propel you up the ladder of forgiveness. But it comes at a price: the whole world you see.
