There is an important distinction to be made between the ego’s game of sickness and health and the spiritual health of the Holy Spirit. The ego’s game of sickness and health, substituting illusion for illusion, is explained in the following quote.
“Cure” is a word that cannot be applied to any remedy the world accepts as beneficial. What the world perceives as therapeutic is but what will make the body “better.” When it tries to heal the mind, it sees no separation from the body, where it thinks the mind exists. Its forms of healing thus must substitute illusion for illusion. One belief in sickness takes another form, and so the patient now PERCEIVES HIMSELF AS WELL.
He is not healed. He merely had a dream that he was sick, and in the dream he found a magic formula to make him well. Yet he has not awakened from the dream, and so his mind remains exactly as it was before. He has not seen the light that would awaken him and end the dream. What difference does the content of a dream make in reality? One either sleeps or wakens. There is nothing in between.” (W-140.1:1–2:7)
If we think about it, the whole world was made as a “cure” for the hellish, excruciating agony brought about by the separation and our belief in it. We keep trading one illusion for another in an endless cycle of grievance, illusory cure, grievance, illusory cure. For the body, the temporary respite from “sickness” is labeled health. This is the ego’s game of sin.
Let’s see what happens if we play the Holy Spirit’s game instead…
“Into this empty space, from which the goal of sin has been removed, is Heaven free to be remembered. Here its peace can come, and PERFECT HEALING take the place of death. The body can become a sign of life, a promise of redemption, and a breath of immortality to those grown sick of breathing in the fetid scent of death. Let it have healing as its purpose. Then will it send forth the message it received, and by its health and loveliness proclaim the truth and value that it represents. Let it receive the power to represent an endless life, forever unattacked. And to your brother let its message be, “Behold me, brother, at your hand I live.” (T-27.I.10:1-7)

“Now is the body healed, because the source of sickness has been opened to relief. And you will recognize you practiced well by this: The body should not feel at all. If you have been successful, there will be no sense of feeling ill or feeling well, of pain or pleasure. No response at all is in the mind to what the body does. Its usefulness remains and nothing more.” (W-136.17:1-5)
And…
“Perhaps you do not realize that this removes the limits you had placed upon the body by the purposes you gave to it. As these are laid aside, the strength the body has will always be enough to serve all truly useful purposes. The body’s health is fully guaranteed, because it is not limited by time, by weather or fatigue, by food and drink, or any laws you made it serve before. You need do nothing now to make it well, for sickness has become impossible.” (W-136.18:1-4)
The body, at a certain point in the Holy Spirit’s game, becomes “supernatural.” In order to achieve this level of awareness, much mind training is needed. But it is possible. We must reclaim the body from the ego and place it at the disposal of true Authority. The ego is presently using the body as a weapon to prove that the separation is real.
“The body cannot heal, because it cannot make itself sick. It needs no healing. Its health or sickness depends entirely on how the mind perceives it, and the purpose that the mind would use it for. It is obvious that a segment of the mind (wrong mind, home of the ego) can see itself as separated from the Universal Purpose. When this occurs THE BODY BECOMES ITS WEAPON, used against this Purpose, to demonstrate the “fact” that separation has occurred. The body thus becomes the instrument of illusion, acting accordingly; seeing what is not there, hearing what truth has never said and behaving insanely, being imprisoned by insanity.” (T-19.I.3:1-6)
We must learn how not to identify as body but as spirit. This would require an examination of the self we made, with the Holy Spirit, and a total relinquishment of it. Also required would be an investment in the unseen world and a withdrawal of investment from the seen. Once achieved, we must maintain this awareness of identity as spirit by careful watching.
“Yet this protection needs to be preserved by careful watching. If you let your mind harbor attack thoughts, yield to judgment or make plans against uncertainties to come, you have again misplaced yourself, and made a BODILY IDENTITY which will attack the body, for the mind is sick.“ (W-136.19:1-2)
Our identity as body and personality self is costing us a “supernatural” experience of the body. Let us not cling to the old rugged cross. Let us stop playing the ego’s childish games of separation, grievances and death. Let us join Team Holy Spirit and play salvation’s game of miracles and healing!
“Today we seek to change our minds about the source of sickness, for we seek a cure for all illusions, not another shift among them.” (W-140.8:1)
